A Conversation with Social Activist, Theologian, and Historian Ruby Nell Sales

Our Women’s History and Appreciation Month celebrates Phenomenal Women who walk into this space through many doors. They willingly share their stories authentically and often vulnerably in order to pay forward what they have learned and to celebrate each other.  Thank you, ladies!

On March 31, 1776: In a letter to her husband, Founding Father John Adams, future first lady Abigail Adams makes a plea to him and the Continental Congress to “The future First Lady wrote in part, “I long to hear that you have declared an independency. And, by the way, in the new code of laws which I suppose it will be necessary for you to make, I desire you would remember the ladies and be more generous and favorable to them than your ancestors.

However, it has taken more than THIS  letter and many years of commitment and struggle. And yet many phenomenal women have found ways to advance the struggle and shine light into darkness.

In an NPR On Being interview with Krista Tippett, meet Ruby Nell Sales, Social Activist, Theologian, and Historian.  As a social activist, Sales has served on many committees to further the work of racial, sexual, gender, and class reconciliation, education, and awareness. She has served on the Steering Committee for International Women’s Day, Washington, D.C.; the James Porter Colloquium Committee, Howard University, Washington, D.C.; the Coordinating Committee, People’s Coalition, Washington, D.C.; the President’s Committee On Race, University of Maryland; and the Coalition on Violence Against Women, Amnesty International, Washington, D.C.

Listen, be inspired by Ruby’s poetic language, and get smarter, I sure did.

    Until next time, remember,
  • You are not alone.
  • You are not your circumstances.
  • You have everything within you to live a purpose-filled life.
