This week I received a not so gentle email reminder of the timeless nuance of history. It included newspaper clippings from the early 19th century. Women sat at typewriters working while wearing face masks and gloves. People gathered at a market to buy and sell necessities all wearing facial masks. Of course, I was drawn to the women’s picture- frame hats and how creatively they had fashioned a stylish face mask to wrap around the hat. If was also a reminder of our inconvenient truth of today.
But alas, a light in the darkness!
The poem “This is Timeless…” was first written in 1869 and published again in 1918 during the Spanish Influenza. No author is credited; however, the title is telling. See if it speaks to you in the present as it did me. Most importantly, be encouraged by the vision of hope at the end.
So, impossible is merely a word to describe the degree of difficulty! “We can dream new visions, create new ways of living, and completely heal the earth as we are healed.” It’s a choice.
Faithfully wash your hands, wear your masks, and say “YES” to the power within you to be the change. You are not alone.
Until next time, remember,
-
You are not alone.
-
You are not your circumstances.
-
You have everything within you to live a purpose-filled life.
