She lived in a place called shame. It was dark there. She wore clothing made from the cloth of “not enough”. She was paralyzed by the guilt of her past behavior. She could not forgive herself. And she didn’t know guilt could positively be used to move her from the darkness into the light. And so she stayed.
There are many people in the world that have a problem forgiving themselves for their past mistakes and the enemy of hell tries his best to add condemnation to worsen the feelings that they have.
Here is a story I have heard and read and used as a riveting game changer for one’s perspective. The author in anonymous and therefore cannot be thanked for the gift. And that’s too bad. I hope it will minister to you.
A woman is dying from an STD. A minister is summoned. He attempts to share God’s love with her, but to no avail.
“I am lost,” she said. “I have ruined my life and every life around me. Now I’m going painfully to hell. There is no hope for me.”
The minister saw a framed picture of a pretty girl on the dresser. “Who is this?” he asked. The woman brightened. “She is my daughter, the one beautiful thing in my life.”
“And would you help her if she was in trouble, or made a mistake? Would you forgive her? Would you still love her?”
“Of course I would!” cried the woman, “I would do anything for her! Why do you ask such a question?”
“Because I want you to know,” said the minister, “that God has a picture of you on His dresser.”
I believe that our God is a God of love and compassion who wishes to forgive and restore all who come to Him. Don’t let the enemy make you feel as if you are beyond redemption. God is able to turn your mess into a miracle so you be encouraged and rejoice in the goodness of the Lord.
We must learn to accept ourselves without complaint. We must learn to separate our circumstances from who we were created to be. We must learn to say “YES” to the power within us.
Until next time, remember,-
You are not alone.
-
You are not your circumstances.
-
You have everything within you to live a purpose-filled life.
